Hi my name is Katherine Spiers. I am currently a student in the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communication focusing my studies in public relations with a minor in business administration. I plan to graduate from University of Oregon in June 2014 and shortly afterwards I aspire to join the professional public relations field within the food and beverage industry.
My passion for public relations began several years ago when I was elected head of the fundraising team for an on-campus organization called Camp Kesem. Camp Kesem is a non-profit organization, which raises money to send kids to camp whose parents have been affected by cancer. My job with Camp Kesem involved planning fundraising events and reaching out to local communities for donations. I successfully raised over $30,000 and I continue to work closely with Camp Kesem as part of the public relations team. I also recently became a member of the University of Oregon’s chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), which I hope to pursue and learn a lot from my peers as well as PR professionals.
My time at the University of Oregon and my volunteer work through on-campus organizations has prepared me for a future in the public relations field. I have worked with a lot of non-profit and on-campus organizations, but I hope to turn my focus in the direction of my true passion, which is in the food and beverage industry.
